“Just the Two of Us” is a thoughtful and extensive guide for couples who want to marry themselves, with no one else present. (AKA self solemnization, self uniting, non-clergy marriage.) This guide walks couples through creating a real ceremonial moment, so they don’t find themselves looking awkwardly at each other or their photographer wondering, “what do we do now?!” This guide gives over a dozen well-explained suggestions for ritual elements you might include to create your own wedding ceremony, so you can marry yourselves in a robust and joyful way!

  • Blossoming in Marriage + A Magnificent Coupling

This ceremony script opens with a robust acknowledgement of your guests and the power of friendship. The address takes its inspiration from the way yellow goldenrod and purple asters always seem to grow next to each other, and how the radiance of one is illuminated by the beauty of the other. It’s about how marriage can be just like that — becoming something greater, simply by being together and giving each other the space to bloom and grow.

  • The Ebb and Flow of Love Ceremony Script

The Ebb and Flow of Love + Las Vueltas de Amor

The wedding officiant script opens with a hearty and heartfelt welcome to your guests, and emphasizes the importance of ceremony and celebrating momentous moments. The address explores the ways in which love is not a static, fixed feeling. The script suggests that we can trust in the fluidity of love, the ebb and flow, the highs and lows. And ultimately, when we commit to marriage, we are saying yes to all the ways that relationships change and deepen over the years.

We offer a bilingual version of this ceremony which includes “The Ebb and Flow of Love” and “Las Vueltas de Amor,“ the Spanish translation .

  • The Heart of Commitment

This ceremony script opens with a short welcome to your guests, and highlights the conscious choice the couple has made to marry. The address explores the nature of commitment… Is commitment simply about sticking with something? Or does it mean engaging fully, with your entire being, even when you don’t “feel” like it? The ceremony offers an enriching view of commitment, and how it might be lived on a day to day basis.

  • Happily Ever After Reimgained Ceremony Script

    Happily Ever After Reimagined

This ceremony script opens with a lovely acknowledgement of your community, and explores how talking about love can feel so cliche, yet love is so darn essential to us all. The address reminds us that when we speak of fairy tales (and fairy tale love) we jump to the happily ever after, but forget about the big bad wolves that were faced along the way. This ceremony offers a new vision of happily ever after, one that is a bit more grounded (and sustainable) than the Hollywood rom-com version.

We offer a bilingual version of this ceremony which includes “Happily Ever After” and “Felices Para Siempre,” it’s Spanish translation .

  • Intentional Magic Wedding Ceremony Script

    Intentional Magic

The ceremony script opens with thoughts on how slowing down for ceremony helps us become more fully present to the magic that fills our lives. The address explores how magical it feels to fall in love, but how staying in love requires intention. It’s about how that initial magic + ongoing intention can lead to a judgement-free, supported-every-step-of-the-way magical intimacy between two people.

  • Remembering to Remember + The Subect Tonight is Love

This ceremony opens with a reminder that love fills us, replenishes us, and gives our lives meaning. It reminds us that gathering with our nearest and dearest in celebration opens our hearts and nourishes our sense of well being and belonging. The address asks “What does it mean to love someone in real time, day to day?” What is the difference between knowing the profound importance of love theoretically versus living love on a daily basis?

Our Approach

These wedding ceremony scripts are written by two ceremonialists with decades of experience, so you can expect a cohesive and deliberate ceremonial flow that builds to the peak moment of sharing your vows. Our wedding ceremony scripts are thoughtful and emotionally intelligent, and go well beyond the super basic wedding ceremony scripts one might copy from online. We really want you and your guests to experience a beautiful, connective and inspiring ceremonial moment. Our wedding ceremony scripts are written for those couples who want to slow down and experience their ceremony as the heart of their wedding day (rather than the “hurry up and get it over with” part of their wedding day.) All of our wedding ceremony scripts are non religious and non traditional.

The sequence of elements described below is what you can expect from all of our wedding ceremony scripts and elopement ceremony scripts. In addition to selling individual wedding ceremony scripts, we also sell a “Bundle of Five Ceremonies” and a “Bundle of Five Elopements” on our Etsy store, priced at a huge discount. All of our wedding ceremony scripts include:

A warm opening:

This section may include a welcoming of your guests, and inspiring words on love, life, ceremony, or slowing down and pausing, depending on the theme of the wedding ceremony. This is where we set the tone of the entire wedding ceremony.

Presence & Gratitude:

In each of our wedding ceremony scripts we include a section that encourages everyone to slow down and connect with the beauty of the place/time/moment.

Address:

In this section of the wedding ceremony we share words of inspiration about love, commitment and relationships. This is not meant to feel like a sermon or proselytizing, rather, it is meant to inspire couples (and their guests.) The titles of the wedding ceremony scripts reflect the themes shared in the address.

Vows & Rings:

We walk you through the exchange of vows and rings, with some tips about how to facilitate them with ease, and offer some beautiful “I do” type vow questions.

Joyous Closing:

In each one of our wedding ceremony scripts we share some final well wishes and thank yous, as well as the peak moment of the pronouncement of marriage and the kiss!

Customization Tips & Additional Resources:

All of our wedding ceremony scripts come with an additional document with detailed instructions and examples on how to customize the wedding ceremony scripts and truly make them your own.
